The name Ancient Indian/Trader's Trail has been approved by the Governor's Office. New signs will be installed on Highway 161 soon.
You are invited to come to the dedication of two signs for the Ancient Indian/Traders Trail on Sept. 7th at 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion Building in Bird City. Come join us for this historic time.
The Bird City Historical Association, Inc. is gathering information about births, deaths, and marriages that occurred prior to County records. These events happened before the start of the County recordkeeping in 1911. They have been searching church and school records through past newpapers to develop a more accurate depiction of the early years of Bird City and the surrounding area. Settlers first founded Bird City in 1885, but less is known about those who preceded them.
Bird City was founded by 7 individuals, one being Benjamin Bird.
The streets in Bird City are named for the town's founders: Bird, Cave, Ketchum, Burr, Pendarvis, Rich, and Demmick.
